Kaiyo's human form was the funnest to design. 
Yuna is Nobuo's youngest (biological) sibling and second youngest sibling over all.

how they became friends/How Kaiyo won his freedom:

Nobuo would seal the violent dragon away in a room with a number of spell tags where Kaiyo could do nothing but sit and seethe, causing the room to growl and rattle. One night Yuna grew sick of him being shut away like a mad dog, and one night, quietly, she peeled all of the spell tags off and sneaked him out into the city for the night, buying him new clothes, dinner, etc. 
He's extremely apprehensive of her at first but when this becomes a routine he begins to relax and feel more and more comfortable with Yuna.

Her mood starts to mysteriously drop and she would come home drunk more and more. One night she came home too drunk to make it to her room and instead stumbled into Kaiyo's room, curled next to him on his sleeping mat, and fell asleep. Nobuo heard the ruckus and rushed in to see what way going on to find Kaiyo curled protectively around the shitfaced Yuna, brushing her hair away from her face with his fingers.


How they became a couple:

Yuna's depression was rapidly declining and it was time to find out why.
After a long time of prodding, Yuna finally spilled the beans to her family. 
Her husband, Ogre (who was a very powerful demon), had told her she was no longer worth her time. He had found better women, ones that could fulfill all of his sexual fantasies and needs. Yuna begged, she had tried to convince him that she would try her hardest to do all they did, but he told her that that's all she could do. Try. He told her she wasn't worth his time or effort anymore, that she wore out her purpose and that he had moved on to greener pastures. That set Kaiyo off, and he left, Nobuo following close as Yuna begged them to stop all the while.
Nobuo  finally broke, telling her what he felt, how it hurt to see his little sister deteriorate after he had turned her into something that lashed out and that she had turned so mean and rude, it was like she wasn't her anymore, and to find out she had done this to her meant he might to do it to other girls. 
She couldn't find the words to say, so she nodded instead. 
long story short he was frozen, shattered, and his pieces scattered across the world. 

For a long time after Kaiyo spent his time curled around Yuna, who was deep in her depression. He had fallen deeply for her, feeling her pain in every step. When she began to recover, he stayed at her side, never wavering so he could catch her when she did. That was what caused her to fall for him. Their relationship is unspoken and unacknowledged, no public displays of affection, no kisses or hugs but they are completely inseparable. 
He's fiercely protective of her, and she for him.
